"The early-bottled (after about 10-12 months) 2009 Mathilde is meant to be something of a sexy fruit bomb style of St.-Emilion. It comes from 50-year-old vines and was bottled in July, 2011. It has been a beauty in other vintages so Iâm not surprised it showed so well in 2009. With the alcohol at 14.5%, it possesses the tell-tale glycerin and rich sweetness that comes from the alcoholic warmth. It is 100% Merlot, which explains the gushing, exuberant black cherry and black currant fruit and hedonistic style of this wine."

The world's most influential fine-wine producer and the benchmark for Bordeaux, Burgundy, Champagne and the Rhone. Its appellation (AOC) system codifies geography, grape and method, and its wines set the global standard for age-worthiness and terroir expression.
The world's largest fine-wine region, built around blends of Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot. Divided by the Gironde estuary into the structured Left Bank and the plush, Merlot-led Right Bank, it is the historic benchmark for age-worthy claret and sweet Sauternes.
Produces plush, supple, fruit-forward reds with plum and chocolate notes. Softer and earlier-maturing than Cabernet, it adds flesh and roundness to blends and stars in Right Bank Bordeaux.
