"The 1929 Latour is a far better bottle than one poured a few weeks earlier, effortlessly surpassing my sky-high expectations. This bottle exudes finesse and charm on the nose, precocious for a 1929 with pitch perfect scents of red fruit, blood orange, minerals and graphite. Michael Broadbent remarks upon a “medicinal” note and likewise, that faint eucalyptus scent that pops its head out from under the covers leaves me concurring. It sounds strange but you feel that the aromatics here are “glistening”. At the core of the palate lies a sweet core of fruit, a First Growth whose every atom is suffused with energy and tension. This 1929 seemed to vibrate with glee and every passing minute sees it gain yet, more harmony, focus and detail, the finish executed with astonishing precision that leaves you lost for words. It really reaches its apogee after 30 minutes in the glass. If I can put it into context, it actually surpassed the magnum of 1928 Latour encountered just a short while earlier. Tasted at the International Business & Wine First Growth Dinner at the Four Seasons."
