"Harry Waugh, before I joined him at Harvey's in 1953, described it simply as 'a beautiful bottle, reaching its apogee.' Two years later, under his wing, I was somewhat more down to earth: 'very full' (appearance); 'deep and fine' (bouquet); 'very, very dry tannins still, (yet) soft taste, fine but no frills.' Both I and the wine matured over the years for there were more appreciative notes in the 1960s . . . . The very best, the most recent, a 'Rés du Baron' jeroboam recorked in 1953: lively, intense; initially restrained but complete, opening gradually. Lovely and - for Mouton - relatively low-keyed. Sweet, fairly full-bodied, delicious fruit, excellent tannin and acidity. 'A perfect drink.'"
