"I have had some absolutely exquisite bottles of the 1972 La Tâche, and this had to be one of the best that I have tasted. The bouquet after about fifteen minutes in decanter is simply celestial, soaring from the glass in a blaze of raspberry, plum, red cherry, beetroot, allspice, duck, lavender, intense minerality, sous bois, and spicy wood. On the palate the wine is full-bodied, deep and tangy, with a perfect synthesis of fruit, acid and remaining tannin to allow the wine fine flavor authority while at the same time literally dancing across the palate. The finish is long, complex and superb, with great soil inflection and near-perfect focus. A wonderful bottle at its apogee."
