"The Clos de Bèze in 2004 is potentially magnificent, but even here there is just a touch of pepperiness hanging around the edges. The bouquet offers up superb complexity for a young wine, jumping from the glass with scents of black cherries, plums, blood orange, dark chocolate, grilled meats, woodsmoke, earth and toasty oak. On the palate the wine is full-bodied, deep and tight, with fine depth at the core, firm tannins, fine acids, and excellent length and grip on the complex finish. There is just a bit of pepperiness on the backend of this wine today, but it will certainly be special."
