"Without doubt, the best Spanish wine that I have ever tasted. A very deep black/garnet core: look five rather than thirty-five years old. An amazing, spellbinding nose: blackberry, iodine, blueberry and just a touch of boot-polish. It has astounding definition and vitality. The full-bodied palate is wonderfully balanced, assertive but not over-powering with stunning focus. Notes of blackberry, espresso and raisin and boatloads of glycerin on the quasi-Saint-Ămilion finish. This Ănico has incredible length, a multi-dimensional wine that must have 20-30 years ahead of it. A bona fide legend. Tasted March 2006."

Spain has the largest area under vine of any country and a deep tradition of oak-aged reds. Tempranillo-based wines from Rioja and Ribera del Duero, alongside Priorat's Garnacha and Carinena, anchor its fine-wine reputation.
On Spain's high central plateau, Ribera del Duero makes powerful, concentrated Tempranillo (locally Tinto Fino). Wide day-night temperature swings yield deeply colored, structured and age-worthy reds.

The world's most planted premium red grape, yielding deeply colored, tannic and structured wines with cassis, cedar and graphite notes. Firm tannins and acidity make it exceptionally age-worthy, whether as a varietal or the backbone of a Bordeaux blend.
Spain's noble red grape, producing structured, savory wines of red fruit and leather that respond beautifully to oak aging in Rioja and Ribera del Duero.
