"From 65-year-old vines in a crowded, high elevation âsweet spotâ, surrounded by Damodes, Cras, Murgers, and Chaignots, with an altitude and exposition like that of La Tache (says Perrot-Minot) and not far south of the Vosne line and Les Malconsorts, the 2005 Nuits-St.-Georges La Richemone Vieilles Vignes was still in cask when I tasted it. Plum cake, blond tobacco, musk, and brown spices in the nose lead to a juicy, sleek, refined (though abundantly tannic), sweetly black cherry-fruited palate with spice inflections and mysterious meatiness indeed worthy of a top-flight Vosne cru. This finishes with irresistibly fat, flattering fruity intensity and brown spices. The roots go deep into the mother chalk â as Perrot-Minot illustrates by means of a soil cross-section â and the same can be said of the wineâs finish."

The world's most influential fine-wine producer and the benchmark for Bordeaux, Burgundy, Champagne and the Rhone. Its appellation (AOC) system codifies geography, grape and method, and its wines set the global standard for age-worthiness and terroir expression.
Produces the world's most revered Pinot Noir and Chardonnay from a mosaic of tiny, terroir-defined climats. Its hierarchy of village, Premier Cru and Grand Cru vineyards makes site the ultimate expression of quality.
2005 in Burgundy is a legendary vintage from a near-ideal, dry growing season; both reds and whites are concentrated, structured and superbly balanced, with dense tannins and exceptional long-term aging potential.
A thin-skinned, terroir-sensitive red producing perfumed, silky and elegant wines of red-berry fruit and earthy complexity. It reaches its apogee in Burgundy.
