Dark red cherry, plum, mocha, spice, cedar and dried herbs flesh out in this super-expressive and inviting edition of Penultimate. This is an intriguing set of wines from Promontory. David Cilli is one of the most talented winemakers in Napa Valley. His 2019 is once again ravishing, while the 2020 shows just how little he had to work with in this very challenging vintage. I also had an opportunity to taste the two most recent vintages of Penultimate, the more accessible of the two wines off this stunning property in the Mayacamas Mountains."
