"Another amazing offering is the 2010 Chateauneuf du Pape Chimere, a blend of 93% Mourvedre, 5% Grenache and the rest white varietals. Packaged in a distinctive Italian glass bottle, this inky/purple-colored 2010 exhibits notes of blueberries, charcoal, roasted herbs and scorched earth. The complex aromas are followed by a full-bodied, super intense, young, unevolved wine that was bottled April 26, 2012, but still resembles a barrel sample. As the wine sits in the glass, aromas of blueberries, licorice and graphite emerge. While the tannins are sweet, they are abundant. This remarkable effort came from one 300-liter foudre."

The world's most influential fine-wine producer and the benchmark for Bordeaux, Burgundy, Champagne and the Rhone. Its appellation (AOC) system codifies geography, grape and method, and its wines set the global standard for age-worthiness and terroir expression.
Spans the Syrah-driven northern crus of Cote-Rotie and Hermitage and the Grenache-based blends of the warmer south, led by Chateauneuf-du-Pape. Its wines are known for power, spice and warmth.
The southern Rhone's most famous appellation, blending Grenache with Syrah, Mourvedre and more into rich, warming, spice-laden reds from galet-strewn soils.
Grenache, known as Garnacha in Spain, is a red grape that thrives in warm growing regions. Its wines often show strawberry and raspberry, with peppery spice and sometimes earthy notes. Styles range from fragrant, medium-bodied reds to rich, full-bodied wines with generous alcohol and a rounded texture, depending on the vineyard and winemaking. In France's southern Rhône Valley, Grenache is central to wines such as Châteauneuf-du-Pape and Gigondas, often blended with Syrah and Mourvèdre. It also produces distinctive single-variety wines in Spain and Australia. McLaren Vale and the Barossa Valley are particularly associated with old-vine Grenache, offering expressions that combine ripe fruit, spice and layered texture. Grenache's versatility extends beyond dry reds to rosé and sweet fortified wines. Vineyard conditions, crop levels and cellar choices shape its character, allowing it to deliver both fresh, approachable fruit and more concentrated, structured expressions. Its combination of generosity and adaptability makes it an important grape in both traditional regional blends and wines that showcase a single vineyard.
A late-ripening red lending structure, dark fruit and gamey, meaty complexity to southern Rhone and Mediterranean blends.
