I do not know why, but I had always been under the impression that the Méo vines in Murgers were a bit older than those in Boudots, but I was incorrect. The vines here are a very respectable forty years old, while those in Boudots are in the 55-60 year old range. The nose on the 2004 Murgers is typically closed at this early stage, and reluctantly offers up notes of black cherries, game, woodsmoke, herbs, earth and vanillin oak. On the palate the wine is full-bodied, deep and closed, with fine focus, plenty of fruit at the core, firm tannins, and good acids on the long finish.
