Lot 42
Estimate: $2,000
The ultimate and purest expression of Barolo can be found in bottles bearing the Giacomo Conterno name. In fact, they represent the ideal of traditional Barolo: rich, powerful, massively structured, and capable of long aging in bottle. These majestic wines descend from a legacy that spans three generations of Conternos: Giacomo, Giovanni, and now Roberto. In each generation, the torch has passed from father to son. Today, Roberto is not only keeping alive the family legacy; many believe that he is making the greatest Barolos ever to appear under the Conterno name. But despite his astonishing gifts as a winemaker, Robert always defers to the beauty of the wines made by his father and grandfather. And so to honor Chris, he has donated a signed magnum of one of the very fi rst Barolo Monfortinos his father made after taking over from grandfather. Now in its 43rd year, the 1970 Monfortino, particularly in magnum from the Conterno family cellar, has decades of life ahead of it. Benefiting The Chris Robles Fund.

Italy grows more indigenous grape varieties than any other country and produces wine in all 20 of its regions. From Piedmont's Nebbiolo to Tuscany's Sangiovese, its finest wines pair structure and bright acidity with a strong sense of place.
In Italy's northwest, Piedmont is home to Nebbiolo, the grape behind the powerful, perfumed and long-lived reds of Barolo and Barbaresco. Fog-shrouded hills and calcareous soils define its greatest wines.
The 'King of Wines,' a powerful, tannic and perfumed Nebbiolo from Piedmont's Langhe hills, celebrated for tar-and-roses aromatics and extraordinary aging potential.
