97 WA "One of the all-time greats from this estate is the still inky colored 1999 Cote Rotie. From a hot year that had many vignerons struggling with vinification issues, Jean-Paul compared 1999 to 2009 more than once. Sensationally rich, concentrated and full-bodied, it reveals a classic bouquet of pepper, smoked herbs, black currants and licorice. One sexy Cote Rotie that's just hard to resist, it's drinking perfectly today but will evolve nicely . . ." 96 WA The profound 1999 Cote Rotie is the finest I have ever tasted from Jamet. It is even better from bottle than it was from cask. There are 25,000 bottles of this saturated ruby/purple-colored effort. It possesses a striking perfume of roasted meats, violets, graphite, blackberries, raspberries, and cherry liqueur. The wine is smoky, intense, full-bodied, muscular, concentrated, layered, and dominated by ripe fruit, with the tannin well-hidden by the wealth of extract, glycerin, and fruit. It will be at its finest between 2004-2020.

Spans the Syrah-driven northern crus of Cote-Rotie and Hermitage and the Grenache-based blends of the warmer south, led by Chateauneuf-du-Pape. Its wines are known for power, spice and warmth.
The northern Rhone's most prestigious red appellation, producing perfumed, elegant Syrah, often co-fermented with a little Viognier, from steep terraced slopes.
Syrah (Shiraz) produces dark, powerful reds with black fruit, pepper and smoked-meat notes. It yields elegant, perfumed wines in the northern Rhone and bold, rich styles in Australia.
