"This was the first opportunity I had to taste the 2009 Karthäuserhofberg Grosses Gewächs and the wine is absolutely stunning. The bouquet is deep, pure and nascently complex, as it offers up scents of pink grapefruit, tart orange, a very complex base of slate, wild yeasts, petrol and a topnote of citrus peel. On the palate the wine is deep, full-bodied and laser-like in its focus, with brisk, but ripe acids, beautiful balance and superb mineral drive on the very, very long and snappy finish. A terrific bottle of dry Riesling and one of the reference points dry wines from the Mosel in the excellent 2009 vintage."
