"Skaha Bench. Site was once the biggest apricot farm in the British Empire! Owner John Skinner has engaged 'full-service' consultant Alain Sutre (originally from Bordeaux; also consults at Culmina and Poplar Grove). Syrah and Chardonnay also grown here. Petit Verdot is apparently so successful here that it constitutes a substantial part of the blend, in which Merlot and then Cabernet Franc are the major ingredients. 44% Merlot, 21% Cabernet Franc, 16% Petit Verdot, 12% Cabernet Sauvignon, 7% Malbec. Cold soaked for four days and fermented for 21 days. Aged for 18 months in French oak, 30% new. Selected barrels make up Red Icon. Unfiltered. RS 3.8 g/l. pH 3.86. Like a very rich red Bordeaux. Very beautifully balanced. Long and velvety. Everything fully ripe but with good acidity too. Well balanced and very bright-fruited. Still youthful but promising for the long term."

An aromatic red grape lending perfume, red fruit and a leafy, savory edge. It thrives in the Loire and as a key blending partner in Bordeaux, especially Saint-Emilion.
The world's most planted premium red grape, yielding deeply colored, tannic and structured wines with cassis, cedar and graphite notes. Firm tannins and acidity make it exceptionally age-worthy, whether as a varietal or the backbone of a Bordeaux blend.
Yields dark, plush reds with ripe black fruit and soft tannins. A traditional Bordeaux blender, it found its greatest fame in Argentina.
Produces plush, supple, fruit-forward reds with plum and chocolate notes. Softer and earlier-maturing than Cabernet, it adds flesh and roundness to blends and stars in Right Bank Bordeaux.
A deeply colored, tannic Bordeaux blending grape adding color, structure and floral, spicy complexity in small proportions.
