"Disgorged in March 2019 without dosage, Christophe Baron's 2015 Brut Nature Les Hautes Blanches Vignes wafts from the glass with a lovely bouquet of fresh peach, crisp yellow orchard fruit, frangipane, red apple and subtle hints of mint. Full-bodied, vinous and enveloping, its satiny attack segues into an ample but beautifully defined mid-palate, displaying pristine balance and none of the sucrosity that can sometimes render the 2015 vintage ponderous at other addresses. Complemented by a delicate pinpoint mousse, this terrific Champagne concludes with a saline and precise finish. 1,597 magnums were produced. I immensely enjoyed reviewing Christophe Baron's wines during my brief time covering Washington State for The Wine Advocateâso it was a great pleasure to be able to continue our association in Champagne. Baron began producing Champagne with old-vine Pinot Meunier fruit from his family's holdings in the Marne Valley with the 2014 vintage, which he released last year, and this year he'll release his 2015s. He's now producing four single-vineyard cuvĂ©es, all bottled exclusively in magnum and disgorged without dosage. Vinification is in barrel and demi muid. These first wines are remarkably accomplished and are well worth a special effort to seek out and taste."
