"The 1995 Bodegas Reyes, which is about to be released, is a highly promising wine. Reyes, who practices malolactic fermentation in small casks, uses 100% Tinta del Pais grapes (from 40-year old vines), and aims for maximum extraction and little or no manipulation (this wine is bottled unfiltered). The 1995 exhibits an opaque ruby/purple color, followed by a terrific nose of black fruits, licorice, spice, and smoke. The wine is dense, rich, and full-bodied, with no heaviness or overbearing, astringent tannin. Everything is seamless in this beautifully made, pure, full-bodied, intense Ribera del Duero."

On Spain's high central plateau, Ribera del Duero makes powerful, concentrated Tempranillo (locally Tinto Fino). Wide day-night temperature swings yield deeply colored, structured and age-worthy reds.
